On Tuesday before graduation I along with my mom and Ty's mom headed to Texas. We got to Lackland AFB, my very first experience on any base, and found our way to the hotel. We used our day to get familiar with the base.
Wednesday morning was the airman's run. Such a fun part of graduation. It was fun to see all the flights run past while chanting. It definitely would have been great to see Ty running, but with so many of them, I didn't. Next was the coin/retreat ceremony, AMAZING. The pride of our country showed through everyone- the graduates, instructors and even everyone in the stands. Again, it was so hard to pick out Tyler in the group of so many guys with shaved heads in uniform! But as soon as we were able to go see and congratulate, I ran down and got to him! I know I was yelling his name, but I don't remember hearing it. The world around me literally stopped as I ran into the arms of my husband, who was now an Airman. We spent the rest of the day around base, reunited.
Because Tyler's graduation week landed over the New Years holiday, I got a whole extra day on Thursday, January 1, to be with him. We explored San Antonio's river walk and shops, and of course enjoyed each other's company. The best way to spend the first day of our year! The worst part of every day was dropping him off at the dorms to say goodnight. But each morning was great to pick him up and be together.
Friday morning was the graduation parade, and it was freezing! They say San Antonio has two weeks of winter, and we were there for it. But after I got past the frigid wet air, the parade was awesome! I still can't believe how amazing Tyler is, he makes me so proud! He is one good looking airman. Friday afternoon we went downtown San Antonio again, bumming around. And we went to the Alamo bowl, Tyler was able to participate in the flag ceremony at pregame, and UCLA had a good win to K State! Tyler was cheering for team USA, "Team America always wins!".
Saturday was a good long day with T man. We relaxed around the hotel, and made way around base to see what there is to see. We went to a Spurs game, which to me and Ty was much more fun than the football game, and the Spurs WON!!
We were able to relax some more on Sunday, and got to go to church with Ty and see how church is with a hundred trainees. On Sunday I had to say goodbye to my Ty again for another few weeks, as he gets sent to Shepperd AFB for tech school.
I'm so glad that our mothers could take this opportunity with me to go to BMT graduation! They love and support Tyler like any mother would. I appreciate all they do for us. They are crazy ladies who struggle with road directions, and know how to cheer at a football game. They even showed Tyler and I a guard dog that they had found and become obsessed with because it sat so still like a soldier- turned out that the dog was fake.. But they are great examples and we love them so much!
I had so many emotions run through me this week. I was anxious to see Tyler, and to finally be off to Texas where I could see where my husband had spent the past eight weeks. I was nervous, because when am I ever not nervous for something big. I was excited to spend time with Tyler, I had butterflies the whole time! I felt so proud for Tyler, I can't believe how much he has been through and accomplished. I love him! I was happy. I was sad each night to see him walk back to his dorms. I was devastated, yet again, to give him one last hug goodbye. And here I am again- anxious as can be for the day I see him again! Although I don't think anyone should ever have to "catch up" with their husband, I had such a good time chatting and hearing Ty's stories. Anytime together is such a cherished time!
Dear Tyler Allen Goode,
I know I have written you every single day for the past two months now, but just another letter. I want you to always remember how proud I am of you for this graduation. You have gone through so much to finish BMT. I can see it in the way you walk and talk, you are a true airman. You are an example to so many. Remember that boy at the river walk who couldn't take his eyes off of you, he even tugged his moms arm to show her the soldier. So many people look up to you. You need to remember the pride you have felt this first week of being an airman. You are incredible T. I can't wait to see where this journey takes us next. Thank you for all you do. I love you to the moon and back!
